IWLCA Poll for Women's Division I - March 4th

The Maryland Terrapins held on to the top spot in the rankings as the IWLCA released its second weekly poll, which included three conferences claiming all of the top-12 positions in the rankings.

Four schools from each of the ACC, ALC, and Big East comprise the top 12 spots, with the ALC claiming a fifth spot in the top-20 to lead all conferences with five schools. The Ivy League boasts three institutions, with four other conferences claiming one school each.

The ALC is led by No. 2 Florida, which remained in the No. 2 spot for the second consecutive week. Northwestern moved up to No. 4, and Penn State moved up three spots to land at No. 7. Johns Hopkins rose five places to take home the No. 12 ranking, and Ohio State remained in the top-15, finishing at No. 15 this week.

All four of the ACC schools ranked appear in the top-eight, starting with No. 1 Maryland. North Carolina holds at No. 3, and Duke moves up to spots to come in at No. 6. The Blue Devils switched spots with Virginia, who fell from No. 6 to No. 8.

The Big East's Syracuse leads that conference's representatives at No. 5; the next three form a block at No. 9, led by Loyola. Notre Dame rounds out the top-10 at No. 10, and the Fighting Irish are just ahead of No. 11 Georgetown, who hold steady from last week.

Dartmouth leads the three Ivy League institutions; the No. 12 Big Green just nipped No. 13 Cornell; Penn rounds out the poll at No. 20.

Four other conferences each have one school in the poll, starting with the CAA, which comes in at No. 16 with Towson. The Tigers are just ahead of No. 17 Massachusetts from the A-10. Stanford from the MPSF enters the rankings for the first time in 2013, coming in this week's poll at No. 18, while the America East's Stony Brook lands at No. 19.

On Tuesday, No. 2 Florida hosts No. 9 Loyola in a top-10 match-up, while poll newcomer and 18th-ranked Stanford host No. 11 Georgetown. On Saturday, 16 top-20 teams are in action, with six games featuring two ranked teams. Two games are between two top-10 teams, including No. 3 North Carolina hosting No. 8 Virginia and top-ranked Maryland welcoming No. 7 Penn State to College Park.

Also on Saturday, No. 11 Georgetown hosts No. 6 Duke, No. 12 Johns Hopkins takes on No. 4 Northwestern in Baltimore, No. 12 Dartmouth plays host to No. 2 Florida, and No. 16 Towson brings in No. 5 Syracuse.

This is the second weekly poll of the 2013 season; the next poll will be released on March 12.
