Reid Scores Six to Lift Hawks to by YH for First-Ever Win

MURFREESBORO - Chowan made history today after garnering the program's first-ever win in the school's inaugural season. Behind Mackenkie Reid's six goals, Chowan powered by Young Harris to improve their overall record to 1-4. Chowan used a five-goal second half to help propel them to the victory.

It was a tale of two halves at Hawks Field this afternoon with the Hawks trailing 5-2 at the half. Young Harris scored just :35 ticks into the first period to get them on the board but CU answered just three minutes later when Mackenzie Reid netted a goal to knot the match at 1-1. Erica Jefferson found the back of the net at the 25:29 mark of the first period to take a 2-1 lead. Young Harris stormed back to net four unaswered goals to end the half and take a 5-2 halftime lead.

Historically this season, the Hawks have been a second period team, and that proved to be true today as well after scoring five second half goals and keeping Young Harris out of goal the entire second period.

Mackenzie Reid scored all five of CU's second period goals. She busted a 5-5 tie with a goal at the 3:30 mark of the second period and iced the game at 7-5 with 1:41 to play in the game.

Haley Haggard played a solid game in goal for the Hawks and garnered 10 saves. As a team CU collected 27 ground balls to the Mountain Lions 12. Adriea Herndon tallied two assists, while teammates Shauna Anderson and Cindy Escobar each added an assist.

The Hawks will hit the road for four consecutive matches with stops in South Carolina and Florida over Spring Break. They will return home on March 17th to host Shorter in an 11:00 am match.
