Generals Run Past Hollins for ODAC Victory

LEXINGTON, Va. Washington and Lee held Hollins to just one goal en route to a 21-1 victory on Tuesday at the W&L Turf Field.

W&L (2-3, 2-0) boasted a 16-1 lead after the first 30 minutes, with eight different players scoring in the half. Junior midfielder Meade Brewster (Brookside, N.J./West Morris-Mendham), first-year midfielders Emily Conway (Darien, Conn./Greenwich Academy) and Amelia Murcott (Madison, N.J./Madison) and first-year attacker Carly Taglienti (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each registered multiple tallies in the opening period for the Generals. Conway and Taglienti both notched four goals, while Brewster and Murcott registered a pair apiece.

The Generals continued to extend their lead in the second half as sophomore attacker Kirby Taylor (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg), first-year midfielder Katie Barnes (Westford, Mass./Middlesex School), first-year attacker Annie Murphy (Short Hills, N.J./Bartram Trail) and Taglienti all scored in the final 30 minutes.

Sophomore Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) and first-year Sally Curtiss (Morristown, Md./Madison) split time in net for the Generals. Mulligan used the first period to collect one save and one goal-against, and Curtiss registered one save in the remaining time.

Taglienti paced W&L with six points on five goals and one assist. Hagen handed out six assists, Conway recorded four goals and one assist and Taylor found the back of the net three times. Murcott added eight draw controls, while sophomore attacker Catherine Klinedinst (McLean, Va./Holton Arms School) tallied three helpers.

Junior attacker Brandi Chesne (Hammond, La./Northlake Christian) notched HU's (1-2, 0-1) only goal of the day.

W&L returns to the field on Saturday, when it hosts No. 2 Salisbury for a 1:00 pm contest.
