No. 2 C.W. Post Shuts Out Regis, 19-0
DENVER (April 9, 2006) - A total of 13 players on the C.W. Post women's lacrosse team scored goals Sunday afternoon, as the second-ranked Pioneers started out their two-game Colorado swing with a 19-0 victory over host Regis. The shutout was CWP's first since blanking St. Thomas Aquinas by a 14-0 count on April 23, 2005.
C.W. Post (9-0) opened up a 13-0 advantage by halftime, and was never threatened in the contest. Six Pioneers scored two goals apiece, including junior Shannon Fabian, who dished out a game-high four assists on the afternoon. Lauren LoMonaco tallied two goals, as many assists, and four draw controls, while Gabrielle Letterel, Jenna Miller, Ashlyn Giulianelli and Jaclyn Napoli all netted a pair of goals in the win. Senior Masina Longo (1 g, 1 a) helped the visitors dominate possession by registering a game-high five draw controls, while Kaitlin Murphy scored the first goal of her college career.
Lauren Scipione made three first-half saves, while Chrissy Esposito stopped a pair of Regis (3-7) shots, as the duo combined for the shutout.
Head coach Karen MacCrate's Pioneers, off to their best start since running the table during the 14-game regular season in 2004, face their most challenging game to date Tuesday afternoon (April 11), when C.W. Post plays at Division-I Denver (11-2). Opening draw is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Eastern.
