Marzocca Powers Mrecy Past Southern New Hampshire

BETHPAGE, N.Y. (Mar. 5, 2013) - On Tuesday evening, Mercy took down Southern New Hampshire, 10-8, to stay undefeated on the season and improve its record to 4-0. Senior Mike Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) had five goals and one assist to help the Mavericks drop the Penmen to 0-2 overall.

Marzocca knew he was off to a monumental day when he had a hat trick in the first quarter alone. Southern New Hampshire hung tough, as Mercy clung to a 4-3 lead after the first period.

Senior Frank Henenlotter (Lynbrook, N.Y.) was the only Maverick to score in the second quarter, as the Penmen found the back of the netting three times to take a 6-5 advantage heading into halftime.

A pair of third-quarter Mavericks' goals were answered with a pair of Penmen goals in the first three minutes of the final period. SNHU trailed, 8-7.

With 8:44 left, senior Joe Poppe (Elbridge, N.Y.) scored his second marker of the game, which was followed by freshmen Kyle Stockton (Medford, N.Y.) nailing one through the pipes two minutes later. And then two mintues after Stockton's, Marzocca added his fifth of the night.

For the Mavericks, Marzocca finished with five goals and one assist, while Stockton and Poppe had two goals each. Sophomore Jesse Wood (Binghamton, N.Y.) had two assists. In the cage, junior Mike Cashman (Bethpage, N.Y.) made eight saves.

Head Coach Jordan Levine and the Mavericks return to action on Thursday when they play at Alderson-Broaddus College in West Virginia. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
