No. 15 Palm Beach Atlantic Nips KSU in OT, Tops Grand Valley

In the second, goals were less frequent as a result of great defensive play from both teams. Hantske's unassisted dodge at 11:44 gave PBA a 5-4 lead before GVSU's Jeremy Pouba evened the score at 6:12. The score remained tied until the closing seconds of the first half, when goalie Cory Ender (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) launched a full field pass to junior attackman Dominic Scalzo (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), who scored with 0:03 left in the second quarter.

Following a Lakers goal to start the third, the Sailfish went man-up by way of a slashing call, scoring again (Scalzo) to keep their EMO conversions at a perfect 3 for 3 (they finished 4/4 on the day). Just over one minute later, freshman Tranard Cannon (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Jupiter Christian) scored on a shot from the top of the box, expanding the lead to two. Following that, Hantske scored twice in 43 seconds (9:02, 8:19), sandwiching a Grand Valley State goal at 8:33, giving Palm Beach Atlantic a 10-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Despite a GVSU goal which cut the lead to 10-8, two answers from Scalzo effectively put the game out of reach. PBA added goals from Ciringione and Dennis Koleda (Huntington, N.Y./Harborfields), while the Lakers received goals from the strong play of Conor Schwalm and Brenden Austin.

Ender finished with eleven saves in net for the Sailfish, in addition to seven ground balls and one assist.

Palm Beach Atlantic is back on the field this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against No. 20 Savannah College of Art & Design (2-3) for a SELC South Region game in the 2013 Sailfish Shootout.
