Marymount Stops Birmingham-Southern, Remains Undefeated

Hendersonville, Tenn. Marymount remained undefeated on the season with a 16-8 victory over Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday night. The Saints move to 2-0 on the season and open the year with consecutive victories for the first time since 2005.

Four different Saints recorded hat-tricks, led by Stephanie Keane with four goals. She added three assists to lead all players with seven points on the night.

Rachel Duff, Taylor Johnson and Lindsay Bullock each tallied three goals for the Blue and White. Catherine Powell, Mary Ellen Whitlock and Chelsea Ritter each scored a lone goal in the win as well.

Stephanie Flood chipped in a pair of assists along with one each from Duff, Molly Maher and Sadaf Najafzadeh.

Marymount dominated the opening half, scoring five unanswered goals to lead 5-0. The Panthers (2-3) wouldn't get on the board until 5:45 remaining in the first frame before Bullock completed her hat-trick to close out the half with the Saints leading 6-1. Birmingham-Southern's goal was the first of the year against the Blue and White as MU held its opponents scoreless for the first 84:15 of the season.

In the second half, the Saints scored another five unanswered goals over the course of nearly 10 minutes and closed out the frame 3-0 in the final five minutes to seal the win.

Kiki Niebuhr (2-0) earned her second victory of the season in goal after collecting seven saves.

Defensively, the Saints caused 13 turnovers, led by Maher with three. Marymount also held the Panthers to just 13 of 25 successful clear attempts.

Powell and Flood each led MU with four ground balls.

Logan Harris paced Birmingham-Southern with four goals.

Marymount returns to action on Thursday at Sewanee.
