No. 20 Quinnipiac Defeats Vermont, as Bobcats Stay Unbeaten

After two Quinnipiac goals to open the contest, senior A.J. Masson answered back for the Catamounts with his first two goals of the season, including one with just four seconds left in the period.

Quinnipiac scored the only three goals of the second period, receiving goals from Jake Emms, Michael Sagl and Basil Kostaras to take a 5-2 lead heading into halftime.

Following three more scores from the Bobcats in the third frame, Graham Horvath tallied his team-leading 11th goal of the season at the 2:02 mark of the period to cut the Catamount's deficit to five, 8-3.

Horvath opened the fourth period scoring with his second tally of the game five minutes into the frame. Drew Philie followed up with two unassisted goals just 14 seconds apart to bring Vermont back within two, 8-6, with 7:12 to play in regulation. The two scores for Philie brought his career goal total to 100, making him the eighth player in program history to reach the century mark in goals.

The Bobcats received two insurance goals in the final five minutes from Kostaras and Dylan Webster to earn the 10-6 win and stay undefeated on the season.

Horvath, Masson and Philie each tallied two points on the evening to pace the Catamounts. Michael Sagl led Quinnipiac with five points on a goal and four assists.

Justin Rosenberg made his fourth consecutive start in net for Vermont and racked up seven saves despite taking the loss. Gill Conners stopped 14 shots for the Bobcats in the winning effort.
