NEW BRITAIN, Conn. Longwood University picked up an 11-10 victory at Central Connecticut State University (1-4) on Friday evening to improve to an undefeated 4-0 so far this season.

The Lancers were paced by freshman Katie McHugh/Burke with three goals in the victory. Junior Lauren Prasnicki/Lexington added to the offensive effort with two goals and one assist for three points, as well. Longwood will return to action on Saturday, March 9 with a 6:00 p.m. tilt at Stony Brook University.

Freshman Sarah Butler/Oakleigh South, Victoria, Australia and senior Jamie Brentlinger/Gambrills, Maryland contributed two goals apiece in the outing, while sophomore Kacey Norwood/Chantilly and junior Mary Barondess/Centreville each logged one goal and one assist for two point each, as well.

Sophomores Liz Trainer/Ellicott City, Md. and Sarah Ardnt/Pasadena, Md. totaled one assist each. Sophomore goalkeeper Christian Acker/Moorestown, New Jersey turned in a complete game performance in the net for Longwood, saving eight of the 19 shots she saw.

Longwood tallied the first goal of the day on a free position shot from McHugh less than two minutes into the game. CCSU retaliated to knot the score at 1-1, but the Lancers answered with three consecutive goals, thanks to unassisted scores from McHugh and Barondess, as well as a Prasnicki to Norwood connection, to take a 4-1 advantage at 12:42 in the first.

The Blue Devils cut the buffer to two, but Butler found the back of the net on a free position attempt and Brentlinger followed with a goal assisted by Norwood, giving LU a 6-2 lead with just over two minutes to play in the first half. Central Connecticut logged one more goal in the waning minutes of the half, but Barondess found Brentlinger open for the shot on goal with just five seconds remaining to send Longwood into the break with a 7-3 edge.

The Lancers scored the first goal of the second half when McHugh completed her hat trick just seconds into the period to make it an 8-3 game. CCSU fought back with three-straight goals in two minutes to pull within two at 8-6 with over 26 minutes still left on the clock.

After an almost 12-minute lull with no goals for either side, Butler hit a free-position shot for Longwood, extending the squad's lead to 9-6, with 14:48 left to play. However, the Blue Devils went on another three-goal spurt to knot the score at 9-9 with 11:14 remaining in the outing. Prasnicki answered for the Lancers with back-to-back goals to make it an 11-9 LU lead with less than two minutes to go.
