No. 1 Colorado State Races Past No. 23 Simon Fraser

Knotted at two heading into the second quarter, Colorado State would continue to build on the last second momentum, re-taking the lead at 3-2 and then capitalizing on several SFU breakdowns to extend their lead to three at 5-2.

A decisive turning point, the Clan would be locked-in for two, 1:00 minute non-releasable penalties on the consequent sequence of plays, putting them man-down 6 versus 5 for the remaining time left before the break. The Rams would waste no time taking advantage of Fraser's undisciplined play scoring twice, less than a minute apart, to sit atop 7-2 at the half.

The Clan would continue to play shorthanded out of the intermission, as Colorado State counted their third goal over the duration of the 2:00 minute penalty to take a commanding lead of 8-2. SFU struggled to overcome the self-inflicted adversity, as two more CSU goals capped a run of 9 unanswered goals for the Rams to put them ahead comfortably by a score of 10-3.

Senior attackman Colton Dow (Coquitlam, BC/Heritage Woods Secondary) would finish from the side of the crease to stop the CSU assault and get the Clan back on the board at 10-4. Beginning to regain some rhythm, Spencer would then find fellow attackman Frank Davalos (Moose Jaw, SK/Albert E. Peacock Collegiate), on a nice slip cut into the hole to close the gap to 10-5. Colorado State refused to open the door any further for the Clan, as the top-ranked Rams answered back with another 3-0 run to end the third quarter with a score of 13-5.

Two more man-up markers for CSU would seal the deal to start the fourth quarter as the Rams jumped ahead 15-5, before a string of three SFU goals came too little, too late for the Clan, closing the gap to eight, followed by a final goal from Colorado State, to finish the game with a final score of 16-7.
