Pappas' OT Tally Carries Mount St. Vincent Past Becker

Yonkers, N.Y. Playing in its second overtime game in as many outings, Mount Saint Vincent squared its record with a 9-8 win in extra time over Becker on Tuesday afternoon. Bruce Pappas (Montrose, N.Y.) scored the game winner and Mike McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) tallied four times.

The Dolphins got off to a quick start on Tuesday and scored five times in the opening 15 minutes to build an early 5-2 lead. Frank Maddaloni (Bronx, N.Y.) opened the scoring and John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) and McEnaney each scored twice in the opening stanza. Petito also added an assist for the Dolphins.

After the five goal output in the first quarter, Mount Saint Vincent would score just four more goals the balance of the afternoon. Becker would score late in the third period to start a four goal run and outscored the Mount 3-0 in the fourth quarter to force the extra period. Joe Ignagni scored the equalizer for the Hawks with just under three minutes left in regulation and assisted on a Jeff Petersen goal to open the scoring in the fourth.

After surrendering a four goal lead, Mount Saint Vincent wasted little time ending the game with Pappas' tally just 28 seconds into overtime. Pappas came down the middle and scored under the bar to give the Mount its second win of the season.

Pappas led all players with 18 shots in the game and picked up his fourth goal of the season in overtime. He rounded out a solid day with an assist, six groundballs and three caused turnovers.

McEnaney scored a game-high four goals for the Mount and is the team leader in goals with seven and is tied for third on the team with seven points. He also picked up five groundballs in the winning effort.

Petito continued his steady season with a pair of goals and two helpers, with Maddaloni picking up eight groundballs. Miller Celestin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with a goal and three groundballs for the Mount.

Petersen and John DeAngelis each scored three times for visiting Becker and Ignagni added three points on a goal and a pair of assists. DeAngelis led Becker with seven groundballs on the afternoon.

Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) earned the win in goal for the Mount after making 15 stops. He made three saves in the fourth quarter, including two late to preserve the tie and force overtime. Michael Munoz also played a strong game, making 17 saves and picking up four groundballs.

Overall in the game, Mount Saint Vincent outshot Becker 51-34 and held a slim 43-41 edge in groundballs. Each team won 10 face-offs in the game, with Derek Wilson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) going 10 for 19 for the Mount.

Tuesday's win evens Mount Saint Vincent's record at 2-2 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look for back-to-back wins on Sunday when they play host to Rosemont. Face-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
