Big Red Sprints by Thoroughbreds in Florida

Denison improved to 3-0 on the season following an 18-7 victory over Skidmore in Clermont, Fla. The Big Red took a 4-1 lead in the opening 15 minutes of the contest and they would close out the first half the same way, resulting in a 10-2 halftime lead.

DU was led offensively by sophomore Molly Chapman who scored a career-high five goals on just five shot attempts. Chapman added two ground balls and was 1 for 1 in 8-meter attempts.

Following Chapman with four goals and one assist was Whitney Powel. She also took just four shot attempts while adding two caused turnovers and two draw controls. Carol Allen posted a season-high four assists and one goal.

Overall, nine different DU players got in the scoring act as Kelsey Wright contributed two goals while Lauren Adams posted two goals and two assists. Margaret Iglar and Erin Keller each contributed two assists and one goal apiece. Adams also led Denison defensively with four caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Big Red goalie Grace Bodenmann turned in 10 saves while playing all 60 minutes in cage. Five of Skidmore's seven goals were scored by Lexi Mellville. The Thoroughbreds drop to 0-3 while DU moves to 3-0. Denison will return to action on Friday (March 22) when they host Hope College at 6:30 p.m.
