Chargers Fall to Fanklin Pierce

Hillburn, N.Y. (3/13/13) -- The Chargers fell in non-conference action this afternoon to the visiting Ravens of Franklin Pierce, 12-5, in a game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex. With the loss DC falls to 0-2 on the year, while the Ravens are now 1-0 overall.

The Ravens scored first with 7:16 left in the first quarter, but Dominican tied the score at 1-1 less than a minute later as junior midfielder Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, N.Y.) netted his third goal of the season.

FPU accounted for all of the scoring in the second quarter as they took a 4-1 lead into the intermission.

Dertinger recorded his second game goal with 8:54 left in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 4-2, but the Ravens went on to score the next six consecutive goals to increase the lead to 10-4.

Daniel Steigert (Copiague, N.Y.) netted his second goal of the season with 8:15 remaining in the game off the assist from Sean McGregor (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) to make the score 10-4. After a FPU goal, attacker Joseph Ravenell (Copiague, N.Y.) tallied his fourth goal of the season on a man up opportunity with 3:41 to go to make the score 11-4.

The Ravens scored their last goal of the game with two and a half minutes to go and freshman Jusstin Ruffin (Amityville, N.Y.) recorded his first collegiate goal for the final 12-5 score.

Matthew Quinones (Nanuet, N.Y.) played 46:50 in the net, allowing eight goals and had a season high 22 saves. Andrew Slater (Brookfield, Conn.) game in for teh final 13:10 and made five saves while allowing four goals.

Dertinger and McGregor led the Chargers with two points a-piece as Dertinger had two goals and McGregor recorded two assists.

Dominican is back in action next Monday as they host Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
