Hood Beaten on the Road at Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa.-Hood (1-6) was defeated by Misericordia (3-0) 10-6 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon. In a tightly fought game throughout, Hood was unable to overcome an early deficit that saw a barrage of goals from both teams.

Sophomore midfielder Randolph Clark had a stellar game for the blue and grey with two goals to his name. Clark constantly was in the attack and his two goals were the most by a Hood player in the contest. The junior was also 4-10 on his facoff attempts, while teammate Brandon McCormick went an impressive 7-10 on his attempts. McCormick also paced the Blazers in groundballs with seven and tallied his second goal of the season in an impressive outing.

Junior Mike Higgs and sophomore Chris Wilbur scored back to back goals to begin the second quarter, which brought Hood to within 5-4. The Cougars answered with a strike by J.R. Lauri for his second goal of the contest and was followed by a Trevor Bodnar goal to make it 7-4 in favor of Misericordia. McCormick then scored his goal giving the Blazers some momentum heading into the half with the score at 7-5.

Both teams picked up the defensive tenacity in the second half with neither side really being able to get much going offesnively. Freshman Cody Mai scored his second goal of the season in the third period off a beautiful pass from senior Adam Patterson. Patterson finished the game with two assists as did senior Alex Engler. Unfortunately Mai's goal would be the last the Blazers could conjure up with the Cougar defense clamping down in the fourth period to stifle Hood's attack.

Sophomore goalkeeper Joseph McCulloh got the start in net and made five saves for the game. Junior John Martin also got an extended run in goal and made nine saves in 45 minutes of action. The tandem of Patrick Johnson and Josh Shanker contributed ten total saves and picked up the win for Misericordia.

Hood will return to action this Saturday when they host Bryn Athyn at Thomas Athletic Field. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
