Queens Scores First 10, Cruises by Catawba

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Queens used a 10-0 start to fuel them past the Indians of Catawba this evening. The Royals won 17-8, improving their record to 3-3 on the season. Catawba drops to 2-5 after picking up its fifth loss in a row.

Justin Kestler would get the Royals going with an unassisted goal at 13:08. Four more unassisted goals would follow for Queens before the first quarter ended, giving the Royals a 5-0 lead heading into the second. Garrett Chan would score two goals in the first.

Chan found the back of the net early in the second, giving him a hat trick. He would finish the game with four goals to lead Queens. Just like in the first period, four goals would follow for the Royals giving the home team a 10-0 advantage. The Indians would net their first goal of the game with 9:41 on the clock. The goal from Trevor Sieracki would shift the momentum to Catawba as they closed the half with three more to trail Queens six, 10-4, at the break.

Queens would fire two in the net back-to-back to go up 12-4 with 12:20 to play in the third, but Catawba would respond scoring three goals in the remainder of the quarter compared the Queens' one.

With the game sitting at 13-7 in Queens' favor heading into the fourth, both offenses went dry due in large part to the goal keepers on each end making key saves. Tom Cullop of Catawba would score first in the period at 8:34, notching his third of the game, and bringing the Indians to within five, 13-8. However, Queens stayed poised finding four more goals before the final horn to secure their victory at Dickson Field.

The Royals outshot Catawba 40-34, and won 17 of 29 face-offs. Queens also won the ground ball battle, 35-23.

Casey Hock joined Chan with four goals on the night. Hock also notched an assist, giving him five points to lead the Royals. Tyler Van Horn and Kestler each added two goals, while Nick Wilkinson posted three points and Evan Farkas posted two. Kevin Lining won 16 of 26 face-offs and totaled seven ground balls. Bobby Berman and Patrick Murphy each notched three caused turnovers. Murphy also totaled five ground balls. Eric Dolan picked up the win in the cage after collecting 16 saves.

Collup led the Indians with a hat trick, while Steven Ridolfo and John Scheich tallied two goals apiece.

Queens is on the road at Belmont Abbey Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Queens scored the first 10 goals and went on to post a 17-8 win over visiting Catawba in action on Wednesday night at Dixon Field. The Royals improve to 3-3, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-5.

Queens put up five goals in the opener quarter then used a two-minute non-releasable penalty on Catawba to score three goals to up its lead to 10-0 at the 11:12 mark of the second quarter. The Indians scored the final four goals of the half to close within 10-4 at the break.

Catawba still trailed by six entering the final quarter and reduced the margin to 13-8 midway into the fourth on a goal by Tom Cullop (New Windsor, MD/S. Carroll HS). That would be as close as the Indians would get as Queens added four more goals before the final whistle

Cullop paced Catawba with three goals and an assist. John Scheich (Waxhaw, NC/Weddington HS) and Steven Ridolfo (Charlotte, NC/Providence HS/Gettysburg) each had a pair of goals for the Indians. Casey Hock led Queens with four goals and assists with Garrett Chin adding four goals. Eric Dolan made 16 saves in goal for the Royals.

Catawba hosts Florida Tech on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in its next contest.
