Yeomen Fall Just Short at Adrian

Adrian, MI The home Bulldogs of Adrian raced out to a 5-0 lead, but Oberlin fought back to make it a game before ultimately falling by the score of 10-7 on Wednesday night at Performance Field.

Sophomore stalwart Sean Higgins recorded a hat trick, cashing in goals 11, 12 and 13 on the season for the Yeomen. Rookie Miles Brooke had a strong night in goal, making 12 saves.

Trailing 5-0, the Yeomen finally got on the board with just 4:34 remaining in the second quarter when senior Connor Jackson deposited his sixth score of the season. Just a minute later Higgins would add a man-up goal and moments after that, Alex Wagman would finish off a feed from Mickey Fiorillo to make it a 5-3 Bulldogs' advantage at the half.

Unfortunately, the Yeomen were unable to sustain the momentum after the intermission as the Bulldogs scored the first two goals of the third period to extend their lead back out to four. Fiorillo added his second assist of the night on a Thomas Cool at the 9:34 mark, but Adrian would tack on two more scores before Higgins would sneak in his second score of the night just before the end of the period to make it a 9-5 game.

Paul Paschke's first score of the season with eight minutes to go got the Yeomen with three, but Adrian would respond just 19 seconds later. Higgins added a final tally in the closing moments, but the Yeomen ran out of time to complete a comeback.

Eli Clark-Davis won 10 of 20 face-offs and led the Yeomen with five ground balls in the setback.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Yeomen 41-20 and won the ground ball battle 31-17.

Oberlin hopes to play its first home game of the season on Saturday when Alma comes to town for a 1:00 p.m. battle.
