Lafayette Goes 6-2 with Win over Wagner

Easton, PA Senior attacker Annie O'Connor (Syracuse, NY/ Wethill) scored two goals and assisted on two others but it was not enough, and Lafayette posted a 16-6 victory over Wagner on Wednesday Night at Rappolt Field.

In dropping their second straight game, the Seahawks fall to 4-3 on the season, while their counterparts from the Patriot League improve to 6-2.

Sophomore attacker Jessica Mills (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township) also found the net two times for the Seahawks, freshmen Stephanie Peterson (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township) and Tori McGrath (Albany, NY/ Bethlehem Central) added one goal apiece while freshman Shea Gegan (Manasquan, NJ/ Manasquan) came up with an assist

Mills is the team-leader in goals (15), assists (21) and points (36). O'Connor and reigning NEC Rookie of the Week Casey McCarthy (Cypress, TX/ Cy-Fair) check in with 21 and 16 points, respectively, While Peterson and fellow freshman Taylor Pastore (Baldwinsville, NY/ C.W. Baker) have scored 10 points apiece.

With the game tied at 2-2, the Leopards went on a 5-0 run over the final 17:28 of the half, capped by an Addie Godfrey tally at 7:20, in building a 7-2 halftime edge. Godfrey then led off with the first goal of the second half before the Seahawks sank back-to-back goals by Mills and McGrath to draw within 8-4 at the 20:41 mark.

Godfrey, who had a game-high five goals on the game and 34 for the season, struck again, firing home a goal just 10 seconds after the McGrath goal which kicked off a 4-0 Lafayette run to make it 12-4 with 16:22 to go. Wagner would answer with goals by O'Connor and Peterson to make it 12-6 at 11:33.

The Leopards countered with a game-ending 4-0 run to fashion the final score at 16-6. In addition to Godfey's five goals, Ana White added three goals and six assists. Also scoring three times for the Leopards were Laura Kleiber and Jessica Rothstein.

Meghan Curtin had five saves in goal for Lafayette while freshman Katie Ferraro (Owings Mill, MD. McDonogh) made 14 saves for Wagner.

Lafayette outshot Wagner 35-12, won 20 of 24 draw controls and led in ground balls, 17-12.

Wagner is next in action on Monday, March 18 when the Seahawks close out their non-conference schedule with a home game vs. UMBC with first draw set for 3:00 pm.
