Rooney Helps Lees-McRae Glide by Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. -- Junior Katelin Rooney (Naples, Fla.) scored six goals and dished out two assists to lead Lees-McRae to a dominating 21-8 victory over Young Harris in non-conference play on Thursday afternoon.

Lees-McRae (3-1) outshot Young Harris (1-10) by a 44-23 margin in the contest, including a 27-12 advantage in the first half, as the Bobcats controlled 22 of 31 draws and scooped up 27 ground balls to the Mountain Lions' 21.

Rooney led the way for the Bobcats with six goals, equaling her season-high, while adding two assists to go along with contest-bests of 12 draw controls and six ground balls. Olivia Gudewich (Frederick, Md.) scored five goals on nine shots, while freshman Jenah Tracy (Naples, Fla.) posted perhaps her best performance of the season with four goals and a game-high three assists.

Taylor Drake (Jupiter, Fla.), Jessica Travers (Asheville, N.C.), and Nicole Dupont (Fort Myers, Fla.) each tallied a goal, as Dupont and Travers dished out two and one assists, respectively. Mia Emmerson (Orlando, Fla.) stood tall between the pipes throughout the contest, stopping 11 of 19 shots to pick up the victory.

Jaclyn Kernohan paced the Mountain Lions with six goals, as Nicole Webb and Stephanie Wright each found the back of the net for Young Harris. Wright and Jordana Freitas both dished out an assist, while Carter Moore recorded a team-high five ground balls to go along with 15 saves.

Lees-McRae got off to a strong start in the first half, answering Kernohan's first strike of the afternoon with seven straight goals, claiming a 9-2 advantage when Gudewich and Dupont combined for three tallies in a 35-second span, the last of which coming at the 14:46 mark.

After Kernohan responded with a pair of strikes to trim the margin to 11-4, the Bobcats countered with four of the half's final six goals to take a 15-6 lead into the intermission following Tracy's third goal of the afternoon at the 1:04 mark off an assist from Dupont.

The Bobcats would close out the victory in the second half, outscoring the Mountain Lions by a 6-2 margin over the final 30 minutes en route to the 21-8 victory. Jessica MacConnell (Cary, N.C.) tallied a pair of late strikes to complete her second hat trick of the season.

Lees-McRae returns to action on Saturday when the Bobcats host Erskine College in Conference Carolinas play at 2:00 p.m. on Tate Field.
