Golden Eagles Grounded at San Diego State
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Marquette dropped its second game of a three-game road trip Thursday evening to San Diego State, 19-5, at Aztec Lacrosse Field in San Diego, Calif.
The Golden Eagles (2-4) fell behind 10-1 midway through the first half and never recovered as they were outshot by the Aztecs, 40-12.
Freshman Kenzie Brown scored Marquette's first goal a little over five minutes into the game and its final goal with 17:08 remaining in the second half. Claire Costanza added a goal and her team-leading 11th assist of the season for the Golden Eagles, while Hayley Baas and Nicole Gleason also scored.
San Diego State (4-2) was led by four goals from junior Meris Walsh and received three goals apiece from leading scorers Michaela Jarvis and Bailey Ewing.
The Aztecs held a 20-6 advantage in draw controls and a 13-7 edge in ground balls and lengthened their lead as the game came to a close.
Freshman Sarah Priem made 11 saves in net for the Golden Eagles, while redshirt sophomore Jennifer Zandlo made a pair of saves while playing the final 11:42. It was Zandlo's first action of the season.
The Golden Eagles conclude their West Coast swing at USC on Saturday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. CT.
