Crusaders Second Half Run Too Much for Rangers

MADISON, N.J. (March 16, 2013) Drew suffered its second loss in as many games, dropping a 12-9 decision to Landmark Conference opponent, Susquehanna (5-3, 1-0 Landmark). The Rangers fall two 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Landmark Conference.

Senior Scott Humphreys (Newark, Del./Sanford School) sparked the Rangers attack on the day. The Drew attackman netted three goals and assisted on two others. Classmate Eric Tripp (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) scored a pair of goals and registered his third assist on the year.

Susquehanna was led by a pair of hat tricks from Austen Lein and John Kerrigan. Carmen Raroha and Tylere Fritt each had a pair of goals to pace the Crusader offense.

The Crusaders came out the gate firing, scoring three of the game's first five goals. The Rangers mounted a comeback in the second period with three-straight goals, one from Tripp and two by Humphreys. Susquehanna however notched the final two goals of the first half, making the score 5-5 after 30 minutes of play.

The story of the game proved to be the Susquehanna third period. The Crusaders scored seven, third period goals compared to just one by the Rangers to give the visitors a 12-6 lead. The deficit was too much for the Rangers to overcome, despite shutting-out Susquehanna in the final period.

Both teams won 11 of the game's 22 face-offs on the afternoon, with freshman Kevin Cleary (Oakland, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional) winning a team-high nine for the Rangers.

Since entering the Landmark Conference, Drew is 3-3 against Susquehanna, winning last season's overtime battle, 10-9. The Rangers are now 9-5 all-time against the Crusaders in a series that dates back to 1990.

The Rangers will make-up a game against Kean University on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. in Ranger Stadium.
