Goss, Sullivan Spark Royals Past Cabrini
RADNOR, Pa.-Sophomore midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) and junior attacker Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) combined for nine goals and two assists to lead Scranton to a 16-10 victory over Cabrini Saturday afternoon.
Goss finished with five goals, Sullivan added four, and senior attacker Deanna Giorno (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South), junior midfielder Shannon Ginty (Mineola, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), and freshman attacker Erin Allen (Syosset, NY/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) chipped in two goals apiece as the Royals improved to 2-2.
Sophomore Melissa Scanzano (Havertown, Pa./Havertown) led Cabrini, now 0-3, with five goals and freshman attacker Nathalie Basunga (Swarthmore, Pa./Springfield Delco) added a pair.
The Royals broke open a close game, as Goss, Sullivan, and Allen scored twice during a 7-0 rally that turned an early 4-3 deficit into a 10-4 lead in the 41st minute of the second stanza. Scranton's lead was never seriously challenged after that momentum-changing run.
Senior goalkeeper Kathleen Smart (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made 12 saves to pick up career win number 23, which is the second most by a goalie in Scranton history. In addition, Sullivan's four goals today gives her 99 for her career, which is the eighth most all-time in Royals' history.
Senior midfielder Jilliana DePaolera (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and senior attacker Kaitlin Lazorko (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) contributed two assists apiece for Scranton, which will return to action this Tuesday, March 19, against New Paltz at 3:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
DePaolera is now tied for sixth place on the Royals' all-time list for most assists with 50 while Lazorko moves into ninth place in the same category with 46.
