Olivet Denies Defiance Its First Win of Season

DEFIANCE, Ohio The Yellow Jackets hosted the Comets of Olivet on a cold afternoon on Saturday at Justin F. Coressel Stadium. The Comets were the superior team on the day and won the game comfortably by a final of 14-3.

Olivet grabbed a 1-0 lead ten minutes into the contest to break the seal on the game. The Olivet score was the only goal in the first frame. The Comets broke the game open in the second quarter, as Olivet outscored the Jackets 6-0 to take a seven-goal advantage into the half.

The Purple and Gold's Dylan Textor put the Jackets on the board just two minutes into the second half and then added another goal a few minutes later to draw Defiance within five at 7-2.

The Comets abruptly responded with four-straight goals to finish the quarter and led 11-2 heading into the final stanza.

In the fourth, Textor struck again completing his hat-trick. The junior now leads Defiance with five goals on the season.

The Yellow Jackets held the high-powered Olivet offense to its second-lowest scoring total on the season, as the Comets came into the game averaging 20 goals per contest. DC's Chris Smith recorded 15 saves at the goalkeeper position on the afternoon.

With the defeat, the Jackets fall to 0-5 on the season. The squad is back in action on Wednesday, March 20, as Defiance travels to Wilmington in a non-conference match-up. The faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
