Oberlin Cruises Past Alma in Home Opener

Oberlin, Ohio Frigid temperatures and a muddy field did not slow down Oberlin as it cruised to a 12-3 win over Alma on Saturday afternoon at Fred Shults Field.

The rookie pairing of Nick Lobley and Alex Wagman continued to guide the Yeomen attack as Lobley cashed in four scores on the day, while Wagman racked up four points with a goal and three assists. Senior Connor Jackson also posted two tallies on the scoreboard with goals seven and eight on the season.

The Wagman-to-Lobley combination struck twice in the opening minutes of the game and then Wagman would later cash in a man-down goal to make it a 3-0 Yeomen lead after one period.

The Yeomen continued to pour it on offensively as they added six more scores in the second quarter to claim a 9-0 halftime lead. Jackson and Lobley each had two goals during the run, while Sean Higgins, Mickey Fiorillo and Peter Paul also got into the mix.

Lobley's final goal came at the 7:07 mark of the third quarter and proved to be the only score of the stanza.

Alma would final break through in the fourth, netting its first goal of the game with just 10:18 left to play. However, Oberlin's Eli Fisher answered with a man-up goal and Ian Kaplan would later tack on one more for the victors.

Freshman goalie Miles Brooke earned the win in the cage as he posted a clean sheet with six saves in 45 minutes of work before exiting at the start of the fourth quarter. Nole Myers helped the defensive effort with six caused turnovers, while Paul Paschke added five ground balls.

Oberlin returns to action on Wednesday night when it hosts La Roche at 7:00 p.m.
