CMSV Stumbles at League Rival Kean

Union, N.J. The College of Mount Saint Vincent had its two game winning streak stopped on Saturday with a 20-6 loss at Kean in the 2013 Skyline Conference opener. Sophomore Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) was the Dolphins leading scorer with two goals.

After falling behind 1-0 in the early going, Fraser netted consecutive goals for the Dolphins to give them their first lead of the game. Both of Fraser's goals were free-position tallies and came just over a minute apart.

Kean responded with the next two goals to move back in front 3-2 before Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Katie Coyle (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) found the back of the net at the 19:22 and 18:14 mark respectively to pull the Mount back into the lead at 4-3.

Leading by a goal, Mount Saint Vincent saw Kean rip off the next five goals to take the lead for good on the day at 8-4. Stephanie Tocko scored twice in the run and Lyndsey Cannon added a goal and three assists for the Cougars.

Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored for the Mount with 1:28 to go in the half to break the string, but Ciara Mastrodomenico scored with one second left in the period to send Kean to the intermission with a 9-5 advantage.

Coming out of halftime, Kean put the game away with the first nine goals of the second half on its way to outscoring Mount Saint Vincent 11-1 in the period. Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) got the Mount's only goal of the half when she deposited her sixth goal of the season with just under four minutes to play in the game.

Fraser was the only player for the Mount to score more then once and she added a pair of draw controls. Flores led all players with five draw controls and also picked up a groundball. Ramsden led the team with three groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Cannon rounded out the game with eight points after scoring four times and helping on four other goals. Tocko finished with three goals and a pair of assists and Samantha Gnapp totaled four points on three goals and a helper. Gnapp finished the game with a team-high four groundballs.

Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) took the loss in goal for the Dolphins after making nine saves. Jules Keeley earned the win with seven stops for Kean in 54:32 minutes of work.

Kean closed the game with a 35-15 advantage in shots on Saturday and a 19-11 edge in groundballs. Mount Saint Vincent won one more draw controls then Kean with 14 with turnovers going 25-15 against the Dolphins.

Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-3 overall on the season and to 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on March 21 when they travel to Old Westbury. Opening Draw is set for 3:30 p.m.
