Gators Streak to Third Straight Win

MEADVILLE, Pa. The Allegheny College women's lacrosse team moved to 5-4 overall today, defeating NAIA Notre Dame (Ohio) by a final of 16-7. The win marks the team's third in a row, and was one in which the Gators rattled off ten consecutive goals, a feat the team has now accomplished in two straight games.

The first seven minutes of play were marked by steady play from both defenses, but a scoring barrage from both teams was not far off. Notre Dame was first to find the back of the net, doing so with 22:38 remaining on the first half clock. Allegheny would score twice in the next two minutes, however, as Ashley Hughes (Wexford/ North Allegheny) and Laura Hoch (Moon Township/ Sewickley Academy) gave the Gators the 2-1 lead. Hoch had the assist on the first goal, while Emily Deering (Hollis, Maine/ Bonny Eagle) had the assist on the second Allegheny goal.

Notre Dame would respond, scoring three of the next four goals, taking the 4-3 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the half, but the Falcons' fourth goal of the game would be their last for the next 21 minutes of play.

Over that same stretch of time Allegheny would find its offensive rhythm. With three minutes to go in the first half Danie Parsons (Brookpark, Ohio/ Magnificat) would tie the game, and with 1:23 on the clock Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) would cause a turnover at the Falcon 30, and immediately rush in to score, giving the Gators a lead they would not surrender.

Allegheny would score another goal thanks to defensive pressure with just 11 seconds on the clock, this one by Michelle Dudevoir (West Point, N.Y./ O'Neill), taking the 6-4 halftime lead.

The Allegheny advantage would continue to grow in the second half, as Dudevoir scored her second goal two minutes in. Deering and Hoch would score the next two goals, both on assists from Hughes. The lead now 9-4, Kelly Towns (Pittsburgh/ Mt. Lebanon) scored unassisted before another pair of goals from Dudevoir. Deering's second goal of the game would be next, and would mark the final goal of Allegheny's 10-0 run.

Both teams would score three more goals, with Katie DaRin (Penfield, N.Y.), Lana Cannon (Peaks Island, Maine/ Portland), and Hughes notching Allegheny's final scores in the 16-7 victory.

Shots went in favor of Allegheny 39-17, ground balls were even at 10 apiece, and draw controls were again in Allegheny's favor, 17-8.

Leading the Gators in ground balls and draw controls was Deering, with four and five, respectively. Rogerson and Amanda Urick (Smithton/ Yough) each fought for a pair of ground balls and draw controls.

Dudevoir led the team in goals with four, tying a career high she reached once in both her freshman and sophomore campaigns, while DaRin, another junior, picked up the first goal of her career. Hughes and Rogerson each had two assists, as they continue to lead the team in points, Hughes with 27 and Rogerson with 20.

Lesley Stange (Murrysville/ Franklin Regional) picked up the win in goal, stopping five of the Falcons' 12 shots on goal.

Allegheny switches back into conference play on Saturday, April 12, as the team heads to Denison for a 12:00 p.m. contest. Denison recently faced Notre Dame, getting the 14-13 win in double overtime.
