Big Second Quarter Leads Mount Saint Vincent Past Rosemont

Yonkers, N.Y. College of Mount Saint Vincent junior Bruce Pappas (Montrose, N.Y.) led nine different goal scorers with five markers and six points in the Dolphins' 16-4 non-conference win over Rosemont on Sunday afternoon. The win gets Mount Saint Vincent back to the .500 mark overall on the season.

Matt Desimone (Congers, N.Y.) and Adrian Go (Fairlawn, N.J.) each scored for the Dolphins in the first quarter to give the Mount a 2-1 advantage after 15 minutes. The Mount then blew the game open after scoring all seven goals in the second period to take a 9-1 lead into halftime.

Pappas scored four of his five goals in the game in the second frame and also added an assist. Bryan Stein (Larchmont, N.Y.), John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) all added goals in the productive second quarter. Kalibat also assisted on a goal for the Dolphins.

Pappas netted his fifth goal of the game to open the third quarter, before Rosemont ended a nearly 32 minute drought with three straight goals late in the third period. Stephen Licata scored all three for the Ravens, including two with the man advantage.

Desimone pushed the Mount's lead back to seven goals with his second of the game in the final 10 seconds of the third quarter and the Mount extended its lead with the only five goals of the final stanza. Kenn Brown-Oda (New York, N.Y.) registered his first career goal for the Dolphins in the fourth.

Pappas' scoring output now ties him for the team lead in goals with 10 and he now stands third in points with 12. Stein is tied with Pappas for the team lead in goals after scoring twice on Sunday and adding an assist. Pappas also added five groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers in the win.

Petito continued the steady start to the 2013 season with three points on two goals and a helper and added four groundballs. Desimone closed a strong day with a pair of tallies and two assists to go along with a groundball and a caused turnover. Frank Maddaloni (Bronx, N.Y.) ended the game tied for the team-high in groundballs with five.

Licata finished the day with three points for Rosemont and Mike Manning added a goal and a groundball. Austin Molocznik led the Ravens with five groundballs and Tom Bottoms picked up four groundballs for the visitors.

Kalibat earned the win in goal for the Mount after playing the first 22:04 of the game and making six saves while allowing just one goal. Ben Gashi (Bronx, N.Y.) came on to play the balance of the contest and made five stops. Brody Safranek played a strong game for Rosemont in goal and finished with 14 saves and two groundballs.

Mount Saint Vincent closed the game with a 44-22 advantage in shots and a 41-23 edge in groundballs. The Dolphins also dominated in face-offs, going 18 for 23 as a team. Derek Wilson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished the game 11 for 15 with five groundballs and Geermaine Ngaba (Bronx, N.Y.) went 5 for 6 with a pair of groundballs.

Sunday's win pushes Mount Saint Vincent back to the .500 mark at 3-3 overall. The Dolphins will look for their second straight win on Wednesday night when they play host to Mitchell. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
