Mitchell Rolls to 12-1 Win over SUNY Canton

NEW LONDON, Conn. Mitchell cruised to a 12-1 victory over SUNY Canton on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at New London High School.

The Mariners (4-2 overall) scored the first seven goals of the contest and held a 45-22 edge in shots. Sophomore Jordan Cook (Groton, Conn./Fitch) and freshman Aaron Sladyk (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) each netted hat tricks to lead the way while junior David Klapp (Greenfield, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) added a pair of scores.

Patrick Connelly (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) scored the lone goal for the Roos (1-3 overall) off a feed from Rob Gleason (Vestal, N.Y./Broome CC) midway through the third quarter.

Mitchell dominated the face-off spot behind strong performances by junior Demetre Lyras (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) and sophomore Joshua Muckle (Waterford, Conn./Waterford). Lyras went 11 for 12 at the face-off spot while Muckle won all five of his faces.

The Mariners took the lead in the opening minutes when Lyras found Cook for his first goal of the contest. Cook then made it 2-0 six minutes later with an unassisted effort, and Sladyk closed out the first quarter scoring with his first tally at the 4:45 mark.

Mitchell doubled up the lead in the second period, with Muckle, Sladyk and junior Shane Sullivan (Quaker Hill, Conn./Waterford) all finding the back of the net. Sullivan finished with a goal and three assists in his first game back after missing the last four games due to injury.

Cook completed his hat trick in the opening moments of the second half to give the Mariners a 7-0 lead. Connelly's goal cut the deficit to six with 9:09 remaining in the stanza, but junior Chris Joy (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) and Klapp scored goals within a 30-second span to pump the lead to 9-1.

Sladyk notched his hat trick-the first of his career-early in the fourth quarter. Klapp later added his final goal of the day off a pass from Cook, and sophomore A.J. Fialkowski (San Diego, Calif./Otay Ranch) closed out the scoring with his first goal of the season.
