St. John Fisher Takes Care of Roger Williams

St. John Fisher won its second game in the Flower City Cup, as the Cardinals defeated visiting Roger William, 9-4, on Sunday at Fisher's Growney Stadium. With the win, Fisher improves to 6-1 overall, while Hawks fall to 2-2.

With the game tied at 2-2 late in the first quarter, Fisher took over and didn't allow a goal until the 12:22 mark of the fourth quarter. Fisher outscored the Hawks 6-0 during the 34:58 span, including three goals in the final 4:25 of the first half to give the Cardinals a 6-2 lead at the break.

Fisher added two more goals in the third quarter both by sophomore Nick Rossi. After the Hawks made it 8-3 early in the fourth quarter, Rossi scored his career-high fourth goal of the game with 11:24 on a pass from Brian Cole, to put the Cardinals back up six goals.

Jeff Wester joined Rossi, finishing with four points on two goals and two assists. Michael Russell added one goal and one assist, while Joe Gaug and Michael Boisvert also scored in the win.

Ryan Freije helped Fisher keep possession throughout the game, winning 11 of 14 faceoffs. Scott Campbell scooped up seven ground balls, while Jamie Campagna stopped six shots in goal.

Fisher will return to action at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Rochester Institute of Technology.
