No. 12 Amherst Edges Swarthmore in Non-Conference Tilt

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - No. 12 Amherst College (2-2) defeated Swarthmore College (4-1) by a score of 11-8 on Tuesday night in non-conference action.

At halftime, the Lord Jeffs led 8-4 after grabbing 10 of 13 draws. However, Swarthmore fired off the first three goals in the second half to come within one and held the visitors scoreless until 16:06 remaining. Amherst outscored Swarthmore 3-1 in the final minutes to win 11-8.

Sophomore Elsye Tierney led the Garnet offense with three goals, while senior Annalise Penikis added two goals and two assists in the effort. Goalkeepers Michelle Ammerman and freshman Connie Bowen split time in net, each making four saves.

Elizabeth Ludlow scored a team-high three goals for the Lord Jeffs - including the final two goals for the visitors. Amherst held a 17-4 draw control advantage and 29-20 shot edge.

Swarthmore will return to action on Thursday, March 21 hosting Cabrini College at 7:00 p.m.
