Royals Home Game Spoiled by Crimson Hawks

CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Royals returned home this afternoon to face Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), falling 15-7 to the Crimson Hawks. The loss drops Queens' record to 5-6 on the season, while IUP improves to 2-0.

Maggie Masters led the Royals with four goals, while Brittany Barnwell added two. Arika Zimmerman also recorded two points in the loss with two assists. Sydney Dishman led Queens on the defensive end with three caused turnovers. In the cage, Danielle Horoschak collected nine saves.

After netting the first goal of the game at 28:46, the Royals found themselves trailing the IUP 2-1 at 26:34. Masters would tie things up at 2-2 with an unassisted goal, but the Crimson Hawks would regain the lead soon after. Brittany Larranaga tied the game at 3-3 for the last time at 20:30 before IUP put three balls in the net back-to-back. The visitors would hold a 6-4 lead at the break.

The Royals struggled to get into an offensive rhythm in the second as the Crimson Hawks began the half with three goals in a row. Queens would be outscored 9-3 in the period before the final horn sounded.

Queens was outshot 30-17, and lost the battle for the draw, 16-8.

Alexa Lodovici led the Crimson Hawks with six points after notching three goals and three assists. Also recording a hat trick was Michelle Zakrewski. Amy Weinberg finished with two goals and two assists, while Tara Nicholas and Brittney Palardy each notched two goals.

The Royals are back at home on Friday at 6:00 p.m. against No. 11 Lock Haven University.
