Royals Outgunned by No. 11 Lock Haven

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Sophomore attacker Jena Ready scored five goals today as the Royals fell 19-13 to No. 11 Lock Haven at Dickson Field. Queens drops to 5-7 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 3-0 on the year.

Brittany Barnwell also had a great performance scoring three goals and notching three assists to total six points. Barnwell also snagged three draw controls and three ground balls. Maggie Masters and Brittany Larranaga each scored two goals, while Nicole Forgione added one goal and one assist. Allie Rhodes and Ready led on the defensive end with two caused turnovers apiece.

The first half was a tight one featuring five ties and six lead changes. Queens would go up 7-5 with 4:46 to play, following a 3-0 run. However, the Bald Eagles would answer with three straight to head into the break with an 8-7 lead.

Lock Haven began the second with the momentum scoring three goals, just as they had ended the first. With 24:48 to play, Larranaga found the back of the net to break up the run, and cut Lock Haven's lead to three, 11-8. The Bald Eagles would score again before Ready got hot scoring back-to-back goals, looking to spark a Royals comeback. However, Lock Haven found three in a row once more stretching their lead out to five, 15-10, with 10:44 to play.

Queens made one final push in the final 10 minutes getting to within three, 16-13, with 5:34 left in regulation, but Lock Haven would respond once more with a 3-0 spurt to secure the win.

The Royals were outshot 32-25, but won the battle for ground balls 23-15. Lock Haven won 21 draw controls to Queens' 13.

Kelly Hamilton led the Bald Eagles with five goals and two assists. Rachel Ward added four goals, while Jessica Pandolf recorded a hat trick and 11 draw controls. Chrissy Baffuto took the win in the net after collecting eight saves.

Queens returns to action on March 28 at No. 3 Limestone College. The game begins at 4:00 p.m.
