Sophomores Lead #16 Loyola by Louisville in Big East Opener

Loyola's Schmitt netted the first goal of the second period and Sydney Thomas tied the contest at five apiece less than three minutes into the half. Once the Greyhounds pulled ahead at the 25:27 mark, they never looked back. They added two more goals to go ahead 8-5 before Cortnee Daley scored Louisville's lone goal of the half.

The Greyhounds scored the final three goals of the contest, and their defense held the Cardinals to without a shot on goal for the final 3:47 of the game.

Monica Negron anchored the Cardinals' defense, which finished seven caused turnovers. Negron had a team-best three caused turnovers and tied Laura Patterson for a team-high three ground balls. Notably, it's only the fourth time in 11 games this season Louisville's backline has allowed double-digit goals.

The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, March 24, as they travel to Washington, D.C., to face Georgetown at 1:00 p.m.
