Strong Second Half Propels Bison Past Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. Sophomores Erica Antonison (Albertson, N.Y.), Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) and Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) each scored three goals in the second half to propel Nichols to an 18-10 victory over host Misericordia in a non-conference game at Mangelsdorf Field on Friday afternoon. The Bison, winners of two-in-a-row improve to 2-3, while the Cougars dip to 0-6 on the year.

Overall, Antonison paced Nichols with five goals and an assist while Murphy scored four tallies and added a pair of assists and Bufis finished with four markers, five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Classmate Sam MacMillan (Bridgewater, Mass.) chipped in with a hat-trick to go along with five draw controls and senior Shayna Ramalho (Monroe, Conn.) found the back of the net twice. First-year goalie AnneMarie Fana (Lawrence, Mass.) stopped a career-high 14 shots in her second win of the season (2-3).

Sophomore Brooke North (Denver, Pa.), freshman Alexandra Elmes (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and junior Catie Viegas (Sparta, N.J.) all had multiple goals for the hosts as junior Erika Proctor (Catasawqua, Pa.) turned aside five shots in her second decision (0-2).

Misericordia and Nichols traded a pair of goals each for the first 2:59 before the Bison scored three straight to take a 5-2 lead. The Cougars scored two of the last three markers of the frame as the hosts trailed 6-4 at the break.

Neither side had the momentum in the scoring column following the intermission until five consecutive Bison goals made it a 15-7 game. MacMillan started the spree with an unassisted marker as 18:41 showed on the scoreboard. The final six minutes were realtively even as both teams posted a trio of goals.

Nichols returns to Mangelsdorf Field tomorrow afternoon to face Elmira at 1:00 p.m. Misiericordia hosts the Elmira on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
