St. Bonaventure Shuts Down Iona Late to Claim Victory

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. The St. Bonaventure Lacrosse team (5-2) continued to show their vast improvement in 2013 with another convincing win today, this time over the Gaels of Iona (2-7) by a score of 14-9 on the road.

Iona jumped ahead early, scoring the first two goals of the game. The Bonnies wouldn't however allow that lead to last very long. The Brown and White went on a 7-0 in the middle of the first half. Jenna Schlagenhauf dictated the pace of the offense, scoring two goals bookended by a pair of assists.

In the second half it was Iona scoring two quick ones again, cutting SBU lead to 7-6 with 27:44 to play. Immediately following the draw that took place after the sixth goal, Kellyn Savage went straight down the field and scored to push the lead back to two.

The teams traded goals over the next few minutes bringing the tally to 11-9 in favor of St. Bonaventure with just 12:14 to play. From there it was all Bonnies starting with a free position score via Erin Thomas, one of her three goals of the day.

Cara Callahan added her lone goal with 3:37 to play. Jenna Schlagenhauf capped of her day by making a move inside and scoring going against her body for her fifth point. St. Bonaventure would go on to close out the 14-9 victory.

Schlagenhauf finished with three goals and two assists. Taylor Ventre netted two goals and handed out an assist. Kellyn Savage, Cara Callahan, Carrie Kubasta, Leighann Stauffer, Mackenzie Jordan and Marybeth Madia each added one goal.

St. Bonaventure will be back in action on Monday when they visit Little Three rival Canisius. Face off is currently set for 4:00 p.m.
