Late Flurry Lifts Bloomsburg to Win over Millersville

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Megan Taylor converted a free-position shot with 5.4 seconds remaining in regulation to break a 14-all deadlock and give Bloomsburg a 15-14 victory over Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's lacrosse action on Thursday.

Brittany Lucchesi netted a team-high team-best four goals to lead the Huskies (4-7, 4-2 PSAC) to their second one-goal victory over the Marauders (4-7, 3-4 PSAC) this season. Liz Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) matched Lucchesi's output, finding the net four times to lead the Millersville attack.

In a seesaw second half that saw a combined 18 goals with six ties and four lead changes, Bloomsburg had the final say. Anna Marmer (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) converted a free-position goal to knot the game at 13 with 4:26 to play and Richmond finished a Lauren Ward (Spingfield, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) feed a minute and three seconds later to give the Marauders a 14-13 advantage.

Sam Alexander drew the Huskies even once again, firing home her third marker of the day with 2:39 showing before Taylor won it in the waning seconds. Trailing 2-1 just over 15 minutes into the game, Jackie Geiger (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) and Kelly Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) put together back-to-back unassisted tallies to give Millersville its first lead 3-2 at the 17:30 mark.

Alexander and Lucchesi responded with consecutive goals, re-establishing the Bloomsburg advantage. Two Marmer goals within a two-minute span put the Marauders back in front with six minutes remaining in the opening stanza. Lucchesi and Joann Caminiti (North Wales, PA/North Penn) exchanged tallies to keep it a one-goal margin in favor of Millersville at halftime.

A minute and 15 seconds after the intermission, Richmond staked the Marauders to the first two-goal advantage by either team. Trailing 8-6 on Caminiti's second goal at the 32:15 mark, Alexander Totino and Taylor went back-to-back, knotting the game at 8.

Cali Toms broke a 9-all deadlock at the 40:25 mark before Millersville netted three times in a 2-minute, 51-second span to take a 12-10 lead, capped by Amy Longenecker's (West Chester, PA/Henderson) team-leading 10th 8-meter goal. Three straight goals from three different Huskies re-established a one-goal Bloomsburg advantage, setting up the final four-goal flurry.

The Marauders return to action at home against Lock Haven on Saturday. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
