First Half Surge Lifts Scots Over Bobcats

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Edinboro outscored Lees-McRae by a 15-3 margin in the first half en route to a 19-3 victory in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon on Tate Field.

Edinboro (4-1) held a 38-14 advantage in shots in the contest, including a 29-8 margin in the first half, while Lees-McRae (3-3) scooped up 42 ground balls and controlled nine draws. The Fighting Scots recorded 47 grounders and converted 13 of 17 clearing attempts on the afternoon.

Katelin Rooney (Naples, Fla.) led the way for Lees-McRae with one goal and two assists, scooping up a game-high 10 ground balls and controlling five draws. Jessica MacConnell (Cary, N.C.) and Olivia Gudewich (Frederick, Md.) each added a goal, as Gudewich posted an assist and caused three turnovers.

Nicole Dupont (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Jenah Tracy (Naples, Fla.) both posted six ground balls, while Mia Emmerson (Orlando, Fla.) tallied a season-high 14 saves.

Shannon Rohrich paced the Scots with five goals and one assist, while Alexandria DeReamer and Katie Magee each added a hat trick. DeReamer and Rebecca Martin both dished out two assists, as Rebecca Zajac and Martin each scored two goals. Zajac chipped in team-highs of seven ground balls and six draw controls, while Alayna Davis forced a contest-best four turnovers. Autumn Held tallied nine saves for the Scots.

Edinboro jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Bobcats responded, as Rooney set up MacConnell on the fast break for ninth tally of the season. After the Scots answered with a pair of strikes, Rooney countered for the Bobcats, notching her 18th of the campaign off an assist by Gudewich at the 8:52 mark.

Zajac and Rohrich responded with three tallies, pushing the lead to 11-2 before Gudewich got on the board, netting the Bobcats' third of the day from Rooney with 2:16 left in the first half.

Lees-McRae returns to action on Tuesday when the Bobcats travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to resume their Conference Carolinas schedule against Converse College at 5:30 p.m.
