Schuss Nets Four as No. 8 Ohio State Squeaks by Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. The Bellarmine University Knights lacrosse team fell on Saturday to the No. 8 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, 7-9.

The first quarter was a back and forth affair with the teams trading goals until the 6:52 mark when Carter Brown scored to give the Buckeyes a 3-2 lead.

It was Ohio State, and Brown, who struck first in the second quarter to put OSU ahead 4-2. However after back-to-back goals from Karsen Leung and Cameron Gardner the Knights were able to move into a brief tie with the Bucks.

With :04 seconds to play in the first half Ohio State possessed the ball in the own offensive box and were able to draw up a goal-scoring play with limited time. The Buckeyes ran Schuss and Jesse King towards the midfield while a wide open Turner Evans received the ball on the crease and snuck it in past Dillon Ward to give OSU a 5-4 halftime lead.

After the half it was the Knights and Brogan Hill tallying a goal to tie the game again at 5-5. Unfortunately, OSU found their rhythm in the third quarter and took the lead with two unanswered goals.

In the fourth quarter the Knights were able to score twice, however the goals were bookended by a pair of Ohio State goals to make the final margin two at 7-9.

For the Knights it was Michael Ward making a strong impact on the offensive end. Ward tallied two goals and an assist to lead the Knights in points scored. Lance Robinson and Karsen Leung also scored a goal and dished out an assist each.

Ohio State's Tewaaraton candidate Logan Schuss had a big game for the Bucks scoring four goals and adding on one helper for a five-point evening. The Bucks' outstanding freshman Carter Brown also played well ending up with two goals and an assist.

The Buckeyes were victorious thanks to their ability to control the tempo of the game by winning 12-19 faceoffs and winning the groundball battle 25-15. The Bucks also cleared the ball a perfect 22-22 on the game.

The Knights will take the field again on Mar. 30 at Fairfield University with faceoff coming at noon.

COLUMBUS, Ohio With four goals and five points from senior Logan Schuss and 13 saves from junior goalie Greg Dutton, No. 8-ranked Ohio State posted a 9-7 road win at Bellarmine Saturday night in Louisville, Ky. The Buckeyes are now 6-2 on the year and 1-1 in the conference while Bellarmine drops to 6-2 this season and 2-2 in the ECAC.

Ohio State, wrapping up a stretch of three-consecutive road games in a week, will now host back-to-back ECAC Lacrosse League contests. The squad will host defending NCAA and league champion Loyola at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Hobart at noon April 6. Both games are scheduled for Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Ohio State led 3-2 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 4-2 early in the second quarter. Back-to-back goals from Bellarmine tied the game at 4-all with 5:09 left in the first half but sophomore Turner Evans scored with just one second left before halftime to push Ohio State back ahead (5-4). The Knights scored the first goal of the second half to tie the game for the third time, but the Buckeyes went on a three-goal run to regain the lead and did not relinquish it the rest of the way. Bellarmine scored twice in the final 6:30 to draw within one, but a goal from Schuss with 2:20 left in regulation helped seal the victory.

Schuss had four goals and an assist for five points in the victory, while freshman Carter Brown scored twice and added an assist for a three-point game. Sophomore Jesse King had two assists in the victory. Ohio State won 12 of 19 faceoffs, led by senior Trey Wilkes with 10.
