No. 2 C.W. Post Routs St. Thomas Aquinas, 19-4
SPARKILL, N.Y. (April 13, 2006) - Sophomore Elaine Williams scored four goals and one assist, while classmate Jenna Miller notched two goals and three assists Thursday afternoon at Spartan Field, as the No. 2 C.W. Post women's lacrosse team ran past host St. Thomas Aquinas in a NYCAC contest, 19-4.
The Spartans' (2-8, 0-3 NYCAC) Jennifer Bruen gave STAC a 1-0 lead with her only goal of the game 1:03 into the contest. From there, the visiting Pioneers (10-1, 2-0 NYCAC) scored 13 of the final 15 goals of the first half en route to a 13-3 halftime advantage. Miller assisted on a Mallory Poole (2 g, 3 ct) tally 31 seconds after Bruen's tally, before she added her own goal 10 seconds later off a draw control. Williams (4 gb) completed a hat trick with 7:39 to go in the half, while senior Masina Longo picked up her 100th career point when she assisted on a Lauren LoMonaco tally with 24:20 left in the opening frame.
C.W. Post put the game out of reach by scoring the first six goals of the second half, including tallies by Kristy Abrams and Gabrielle Letterel. STAC's Kim DiLorenzo completed her hat trick with an unassisted marker with 3:02 left in the contest.
Colleen Agostinachio matched the same statistical total she had in Tuesday night's game at Division-I Denver, picking up three goals and one assist. The nation's leading scorer, Shannon Fabian chipped in to the winning effort with two goals and as many assists, while Lindsay Goldman added a first-half goal. Lauren Scipione stopped five first-half shots in picking up the victory in the Pioneers cage, while Chrissy Esposito turned aside three shots in the second half.
Head coach Karen MacCrate's C.W. Post team is back in NYCAC action Wednesday afternoon (April 19), when the Pioneers play at home for the first time in the last five games as Molloy travels to Hickox Field for a 4:00 p.m. opening draw.
