Utica Scores Seven Unanswered to Down Oswego State

UTICA, N.Y. Oswego State (3-3) was unable to capitalize on an early lead, as the Utica Pioneers scored seven unanswered first-half goals en route to handing the Lakers a 10-5 loss at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

Oswego State's Kaila Curatalo (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) got things going early for the Lakers, netting the first goal of the match just 30 seconds in. Minutes later, Lindsey Eggers (Fr., Ridge, N.Y.) netted a pass from Danielle Citro (Sr., Miller Place, N.Y.) putting the Lakers up, 2-0, in the first five minutes. That lead did not last long for the Lakers, though, as it was all Utica for the rest of the half. Five different Pioneers scored to give Utica a 7-2 halftime lead.

Oswego State's Erannan Shattuck (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.) stopped the scoring string three minutes into the second half off an assist from Eggers. Candace Tarana (Jr,. Rochester, N.Y.) and Citro contributed two more goals for the Lakers, but the Pioneers added three second-half goals of their own, including Megan Kane's fourth of the contest, to secure the victory for Utica.

Neither team was very successful on free-position shots as the Lakers were 2 for 9, while the Pioneers were 4 for 13.

Lauren Marois (Sr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) picked up the loss after making two saves and allowing five goals in the first 15:38. Nikki Greco (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) closed out the game with six saves and two allowed goals. Utica's Stephanie Belanger earned the win after stopping eight shots.

The Lakers pick up play on Saturday at home against in their conference opener against Fredonia at 1:00 p.m.
