No. 4 Panthers Sprint Past the Setters

Garden City, N.Y. No. 4 Adelphi hosted the Setters of Pace in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. After going up 6-2 after the first, the Panthers scored three or more goals in the remaining quarters to take the 17-3 victory. With the win, the Brown and Gold advance to 4-0, 2-0 NE-10, while the Setters slip to 2-4, 0-3.

The Panthers were led by freshman Salvatore Tuttle who registered three assists and as many goals for a total of six points. Tuttle was one of 13 Panthers who registered at least one point on the afternoon. Nick Watson and Robert Rossi both registered three points while Vinny Coiro and Luke Spitzer both chipped in with two.

Gregory Puskuldjian and Rashad Cureton combined for all 15 of Adelphi's face off wins with Puskuldjian taking nine of them. Eric Janssen picked up the win as he played the first 30 minutes in the cage, allowing two goals and making five saves. The remaining minutes were shared by Aidan Bennardo, John McGrath and Keith McDermott, who combined for six saves.

As a team, the Panthers outshot the Setters 41-28 and led 46-31 in the ground ball tally. Adelphi was also successful on 18 of 20 clear attempts and won 15 of 23 faceoffs.

The visitors got on the board first less than a minute into the game, as William Scioscia recorded his tenth goal of the season to put the Setters up 1-0. The Panthers scored four answered goals midway through the period to put themselves in front 4-1. While Pace got one goal back with 3:35 left in the first frame, the Brown and Gold scored two more to end the first period leading 6-2.

The Panthers found the back of the net four more times in the second period and took a 10-2 leading into halftime. In the second half, the Panthers dominated in all offensive categories. They tacked on three more goals in the third frame to lead 13-2 and added four more goals in the fourth and final frame. The Setters registered their final goal of the afternoon with just 2:36 remaining in the game, with the score already out of reach.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, March 30th when they host the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire Uiversity for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The game is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
