After a back-and-forth opening 17 minutes that saw the teams trade goals, Hopkins went on a five-goal run to go into the half with a 7-2 lead. DiMartino opened the scoring with a free position goal at 25:55, but the Eagles answered just over a minute later with a Lugovina goal. Freshman Jenna Reifler buried a side-arm shot off a Cook pass at 21:04 to put the Blue Jays back on top.

Hopkins held American scoreless for more than 11 minutes, but the Eagles finally got through the defense at 14:12 to knot the score at 2-2. Junior Sarah Taylor answered with the first of her two goals on the day, scoring with 12:56 to play in the half and igniting the five-goal run. D'Amore followed with a goal at 10:41, when she was lost her defender and went in alone on Harrison and fired a shot inside the left post. Cook then scored off a great hustle play, scooping up a loose ball in the fan and sneaking a shot past Harrison at 6:20.

Taylor pushed the lead to four with a free position shot at 1:53 and just 44 seconds later, Cook caught a D'Amore pass high and quickly rifled a shot home to make it a 7-2 game. Hopkins took all the momentum into the half, but American quickly took it back. Marshall scored at 24:26 off a pass from Collins to break the Eagles' scoring drought that had reached 19:47. American then strung together three straight free position goals to pull within one with 12:41 to go in the game. DiMartino ended the AU run with her goal at 4:06 to stake Hopkins to the 8-6 lead.

Cook paced Hopkins with three goals and an assist, while D'Amore had three points and controlled five draws. Senior Cosette Larash finished with three saves in the loss for the Blue Jays. Lugovina and Marshall led the Eagles with three goals and four points apiece. Emily Maher controlled a game-high six draws and Harrison made 10 stops in the cage to get the win.

Hopkins returns home on Saturday, March 30 and resumes American Lacrosse Conference play as the Blue Jays host the Vanderbilt Commodores. Opening draw at Homewood Field is slated for 1:00 pm.
