Oberlin Falls at Occidental

Los Angeles, CA Oberlin College dropped its second game of spring break, falling to the Occidental Tigers 20-8 on Wednesday evening.

The rookie pairing of Grace Barlow and Suzanna Doak each scored two goals to pace the Yeowomen attack in the setback. Barlow now has a team-high 13 goals on the season.

The Tigers scored six of the game's first seven goals to take a 6-1 lead nine minutes into the contest. Barlow cashed in the first goal of the game just 1:15 in, but Oxy responded with six straight scores. Back-to-back finishes by Kate Kanick and Ilyssa Meyer cut the Yeowomen deficit down to three, 6-3, with 19:48 left in the opening stanza.

Occidental scored six more times in the first half, but Doak found the back of the cage twice, and Jodi Helsel scored her first goal of the season all in the first thirty minutes. However, Oxy led 14-6 at the break.

Oberlin never really threatened a comeback in the second half, but Barlow did deposit an 8-meter goal while Bronwen Schumacher scored the game's final goal.

The Yeowomen finished with a slight 15-14 edge in draw controls as Schumacher checked in with a team-high five while Sarah Andrews scooped up four.

Oberlin concludes its spring break on Friday night against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
