Centenary Overpowered at Virginia Wesleyan

Virginia Beach, VA. (March 28, 2013) After making the seven-hour trek to Norfolk, Va. earlier this week, the Cyclones are returning home on the wrong end of a 19-5 game against Virginia Wesleyan.

Centenary fell behind very early in the opening half and were playing catch up for the rest of the game. Trailing 7-0 not halfway through the half, the Cyclones got on the board when Allie Swartz (Marlton, NJ, Cherokee) found the back of the cage at 13:42 to put the visitors on the board. However, the Marlins would end the half on a 5-0 run to take a 12-1 lead into the half.

The Cyclones kept fighting in the second half, as Swartz scored twice more to secure the hat trick along with Alysia Pinkerton (Frenchtown, NJ, Delaware Valley Regional) and Carlie Schmitt (Stewartstown, Kennard-Dale High School) each scoring once. Unfortunately it would not be enough to overcome the offensive explosion of Virginia Wesleyan, who tacked on seven more goals to win by the final score of 19-5.

The loss is the Cyclones fifth in a row and drops them to 2-5 on the season. Centenary College will next be in action on Thursday April 4th when they hit the road to take on CSAC foe Rosemont College at 4:00 PM.
