Slippery Rock Holds on to Edge Shepherd

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. Senior midfielder Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) scored four goals, including three in the second half, but Slippery Rock held on for a 13-12 win over Shepherd on Thursday evening.

Sophomore attacker/midfielder Kelsey Eagan (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) added three goals for the Rams. Freshman attacker Hunter Morris (Severna Park, MD/Severn School) added two goals and an assist, while sophomore attacker Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) had a goal and an assist.

Senior midfielder Krista Tippett (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) and freshman midfielder Erin Phelan (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin) each recorded a goal for the Rams.

Laura Laubach had four goals, while Paige Constentino, Morgan Petit, and Katie Cook each added two for The Rock.

Sophomore netminder Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) recorded 10 saves for the Rams, while Hannah Houde recorded 12 saves for Slippery Rock.

Shepherd scored three unanswered goals at the end of the first half to tie the game at 6-6 going into the break.

The Rock built up a three-goal lead at 12-9 after a Sarah Morris goal with 9:43 remaining. Shepherd answered with a pair of unassisted goals by Ruane to close the gap to 12-11 with 3:57 left.

Erin Wilcox scored with 1:36 left to give Slippery Rock a two goal cushion, but Shepherd cut the lead to a goal after an unassisted tally by Eagan with 36 seconds remaining. Shepherd's shot in the game's final seconds was saved by Houde.

The Rams held a 35-28 advantage in shots and a 24-20 edge in ground balls. Shepherd also had a 15-11 edge in draw controls.

Shepherd falls to 7-4, while Slippery Rock improves to 2-2. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Findlay for a noon contest.
