Top-Ranked Le Moyne Stops Saint Anselm for Eighth Victory

Syracuse, N.Y. Sophomore midfielder Joe Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored three goals to lead top-ranked Le Moyne to a 14-5 win over Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins opened the game's scoring at the 10:15 mark as senior attackman Tyler Prevost (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart/Onondaga C.C.) scored on the crease after curling from the right side and taking a pass from junior attackman Matt Klepper (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Merrimack).

The Hawks evened the score at one apiece with 4:11 remaining in the opening quarter as Andrew Messner finished off a feed from Ryan Mee.

Le Moyne regained the lead just 30 seconds into the second quarter on Corapi's first goal of the day. Just 66 seconds later, Corapi found the back of the net for the 12th time this year off a restart of a missed shot. The Dolphins pushed their lead to 4-1 with 11:23 remaining in the second quarter as Klepper caught the ball on the right edge of the crease off a save by Saint Anselm goalkeeper Jonathon O'Reilly and tossed the ball into the back of the net.

Saint Anselm pulled within two goals with 7:25 left in the quarter as Andy Budz scored off a dodge down the right alley.

Following a Saint Anselm turnover, freshman attackman/midfielder Mike Jenkins (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) got into the scoring column with an unassisted goal at the 3:05 mark. Only 52 seconds later, senior midfielder Doug Bailey (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) netted his fourth goal of the year after cutting down the center of the box and taking a pass from Klepper.

After Klepper intercepted a Saint Anselm clear attempt, he sent a pass into the box, where Prevost fired a shot from the left side into the right side of the goal with 17.8 seconds remaining to give the Dolphins a 7-2 lead at the intermission.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the second half with a pair of goals in a span of seven seconds. After passing the ball around the box for over one minute, Messner found the back of the net with 12:59 remaining in the third quarter. Off the ensuing face-off, Mee tallied his 11th goal of the year after taking a pass from Ben Warren.

The Dolphins took advantage of a slashing penalty on the Hawks to regain control of the game. Jenkins curled around the right side of the goal and then sent a pass to the left edge of the crease to senior attackman Nate Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), who deposited his 16th goal of the year at the 11:43 mark.

Following a Saint Anselm shot-clock violation, the Dolphins cleared the ball and then Corapi rifled in his third goal of the day with 9:05 left. Just eight seconds after another Saint Anselm penalty, junior midfielder Andrew Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) tallied his 10th goal of the campaign off a feed from Frechette. After the Hawks threw the ball away in the middle of the field, graduate student midfielder Aaron Cahill (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland/Onondaga C.C.) carried the ball into the box before firing a shot into the back of the net from the right alley with 3:16 remaining.

Just eight seconds later, Jenkins scored from the right edge of the crease after taking a cross-crease pass from junior attackman Chris Button (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport). Button and Jenkins traded roles with 13 seconds remaining in the quarter as the Dolphins took a 13-4 lead into the fourth quarter.

Off the opening face-off of the fourth quarter, Cahill registered his third goal of the season at the 14:51 mark.
