Lycoming's Rally Falls Short at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. Junior Jason Breau (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) posted a career-high four points with three goals and an assist, but Lycoming's late rally fell short on Saturday, March 30, as Elizabethtown was able to take a 10-7 Commonwealth Conference win at Wolf Field.

The Warriors (2-7 overall, 1-1 Commonwealth) opened up a 2-0 lead through the first nine minutes of the first quarter, with junior Matt McCaffer (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) and Breau each denting the twine. However, Elizabethtown (6-2 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) took control from there, scoring six straight goals while going on a 9-1 run that finished when Craig Hunsberger scored with 9:43 left in the third quarter.

Lycoming worked back into the game, though, as senior Matt Doherty (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) scored with 5:09 left before Breau notched two goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. Sophomore Steve Troup (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) added another Warriors' strike with 4:28 left, closing the gap to 9-7, but Hunsberger answered for Elizabethtown 1:05 later to clinch the Blue Jays' win.

McCaffer finished with two goals and sophomore Sean Reilly (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post West) notched two assists and five groundballs. Doherty won 10 faceoffs and added seven ground balls to go with his goal. Freshman Michael Wagner (Pasadena, Md./St. Mary's) added five ground balls and a caused turnover.

Hunsberger and Dillon O'Dell each scored two goals and Colin Corcoran added a goal and assist to lead Elizabethtown. Jimmy Waters and Tucker Keefer each added two assists. Hunsberger led the Blue Jays with six groundballs and Jake Snyder and Nick Thompson each added two caused turnovers.

In net, sophomore Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) stopped 14 shots for the Warriors. Chris Wenger posted 11 saves in the win for Elizabethtown.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, April 3, when they head to Messiah for a 7:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
