Philadelphia Has Winning Streak Stopped at Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. Freshman attack Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) and sophomore midfielder Lauren Hartman (Sewell, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy) each scored twice for Philadelphia University in its 10-7 loss to Queens (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon.

Philadelphia, who had its winning streak stopped at four, is now 6-4 overall. The Knights improve to 5-3.

Junior midfielders Libby Nichols (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and Melissa Styer (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and junior attack Emily Ray (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) all added one goal.

Melissa Montreuil scored two of her three goals 1:42 into the contest to give Queens a quick 2-0 lead. At the 25:34 mark, Nichols cut Philadelphia's deficit in half with an unassisted tally.

Queens responded with four of the match's next five goals, three coming from Taylor Martello, to extend the margin to 6-2. After trading goals, Hartman netted the final tally of the half to bring Philadelphia within 7-3 at the half.

The Rams came out strong in the second half as Mower and Styer both scored in the first 2:16 to close the gap to 7-6.

The Knights outscored the Rams 3-1 over the final 26:46 to hold on for the win.

Philadelphia's sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Moran (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) made seven saves in the loss. Kahli Evans posted 10 stops for Queens. The Rams owned a 24-23 shot advantage.

Philadelphia returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at Wilmington (Del.) on Wednesday, April 3 at 4:30 p.m.
