Burchard's Overtime Goal Lifts Tigers Over Occidental

LOS ANGELES Junior midfielder Elise Burchard struck for an unassisted goal 1:25 into the second overtime to give Colorado College an 11-10 victory at Occidental College on Sunday afternoon at Jack Kemp Stadium.

Senior goaltender Abby Fink made 14 saves, including a pair in the first extra session, to keep the visiting Tigers in the game.

Senior attacker Ellie Cole nearly ended the contest 47 seconds into the first overtime, but her free-position shot went off the pipe. Oxy almost won the game 55 seconds later, but Fink denied Haley Gandsey.

Burchard, Cole and sophomore attacker Maddie Pitkin gave Colorado College an 8-5 lead when they scored in a span of 2:40 early in the second half.

Occidental answered with four of the next five goals and tied the game with 8:54 to play on the third tally by Isabel Osgood-Roach, but Pitkin put CC back in front when she scored the last of her game-high four markers with just 3:48 to play.

Fink stopped Gandsey's free-position effort with 21 seconds to go, but Oxy picked up the ground ball and Gandsey sent the game to overtime when she scored with only seven ticks remaining in regulation.

Occidental jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but a pair of Pitkin just 26 seconds apart sparked a 5-1 run that put Colorado College ahead for the first time at 5-4 on a goal by senior midfielder Kate Krieger.

CC got a huge effort from senior defender Nancy Makuch, who finished with four draw controls, four ground balls and a caused turnover.

Colorado College, which has won three of its last four games, visits Division II Regis University on Thursday.
