IWLCA Poll for Women's Division I - April 1st

Maryland held on to the top spot, taking all 20 first-place votes, and ACC rival North Carolina moved up to No. 2 in this week's IWLCA weekly poll, setting up a 1 vs. 2 clash on Saturday in College Park.

Denver from the MPSF moved into the rankings this week, giving that conference two schools in the poll while the ACC, ALC, and Big East each claimed four schools in the top-20.

Each of the ACC, ALC and Big East have three schools in the top-10. The ACC claims the top two spots in the poll as North Carolina moved up one spot to take No. 2. Duke holds at No. 6 while Virginia drops to No. 11.

The ALC claims the No. 3 and No. 4 slots, with Florida and Northwestern, respectively. Penn State moves up to No. 8 while Johns Hopkins moves to No. 17.

Syracuse continues to lead the Big East at No. 5 while Notre Dame remains at No. 7 and Georgetown moves to No. 9. Loyola moves up to spots to land at No. 15.

The MPSF now has two ranked schools, with Stanford rounding out the top-10 at No. 10 and Denver closing out the poll as the Pioneers enter the ranking at No. 20.

Cornell from the Ivy League moves to No. 14 while Princeton joins the ranking at No. 18.

Four other conferences appear in the top-20, starting with Stony Brook representing the America East at No. 12. Massachusetts moves up three slots to land at No. 13. Navy from the Patriot League also moves up two slots and now sits at No. 16 while James Madison from the CAA holds steady at No. 19.

On Friday, two key conference match-ups take place between ranked teams. The MPSF sees poll newcomer and No. 20 Denver welcoming No. 10 Stanford and the ALC's fourth-ranked Northwestern hosts No. 8 Penn State. Saturday features No. 1 vs. No. 2 as the ACC has Maryland welcoming North Carolina. Two other conference games are on the schedule as No. 3 Florida hosts No. 17 Johns Hopkins in ALC play and No. 9 Georgetown travels to No. 15 Loyola in the Big East. On Sunday, No. 11 Virginia hosts No. 4 Northwestern.

This is the sixth weekly poll of the 2013 season; the next poll will be released on April 9.
