Hubley Draws #20 Washington College a Win at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. Nationally-ranked Washington College scored eight of the game's first nine goals as the Shorewomen (8-1, 1-1 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (2-7, 0-3 Centennial) 17-7 on Wednesday afternoon in women's lacrosse action in the Centennial Conference.

Carly Eisenbrandt scored five goals for the Shorewomen, while Emily Hubley added in four goals and two assists. Ursinus got a pair of goals from sophomore midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), while freshman midfielder Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West-Windsor Plainsboro) scored a goal and added an assist for the Bears.

Trailing 4-0, Ursinus got on the board with 23:22 left in the first half when junior attack Amber Moyer (Womelsdorf, Pa./Conrad Weiser) scored her 16th goal of the season. Washington would score four more goals, before Ursinus got back on the board when Dawson scored her first of the game at 7:53 left.

Down by eight at 10-2 with 28:12 left, Ursinus went on a short 3-1 run to pull within six at 11-5 on a goal by freshman attack Jessica Hill (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) with 19:13 left. But that would be the closest Ursinus would get the rest of the game.

Ursinus got three ground balls and five draw controls from freshman midfielder Mary Deliberti (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe), while Dawson, Brakel and senior attack Lauren Garganio (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) each had two draw controls.

In goal, junior Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) made 14 saves.

Ursinus heads to Bryn Mawr on Saturday.

COLLEGEVILLE, PA Emily Hubley tied a conference, college, and personal high for draw controls in a game with 11 as visiting #20 Washington College scored four goals in a span of 1:25 early in the first half and never trailed en route to a 17-7 win over host Ursinus at Patterson Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Shorewomen are now 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the Bears slide to 2-7 and 0-3 respectively.

It is Washington's second all-time win at Ursinus as the team's previous win in Collegeville was in the 2003 season by a 12-9 score. It is the first time the Shorewomen have downed the Bears twice in consecutive meetings and seasons and it is also the largest margin of victory for WC versus Ursinus.

The Shorewomen struck just 1:38 into the game on a free position goal by junior attacker Carly Eisenbrandt (Baltimore, MD/Towson) and 10 seconds later Eisenbrandt finished off a pass from Hubley.

Only 20 seconds later, Hubley scored with senior attacker Mollie Shipley (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) to put Washington ahead 3-0. Senior midfielder Marissa Restaino (Media, PA/Penncrest) converted a pass from senior attacker Corinne Ziccardi (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) for the fourth goal just 3:03 into the contest.

Ursinus got onto the board with 23:22 left in the first half when Amber Moyer stole a clearing pass and scored to cut the lead to 4-1. The Shorewomen restored the four-goal lead when Eisenbrandt scored in transition on a pass from sophomore midfielder Liz Godorov (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) with 13:40 left in the first.

Just 82 seconds later Eisenbrandt completed a feed from Hubley to make it 6-1. Godorov scored her second straight goal for the guests with 10:44 left to give Washington a 7-1 lead and Hubley cashed in a free position chance 34 seconds later to make it 8-1 Shorewomen.

Kitty Dawson netted an unassisted tally for Ursinus to trim the lead to 8-2 with 7:53 remaining in the first. Restaino finished off a Shipley pass with 88 seconds left in the first half to make it 9-2 and that would be the halftime score.
